Portraits 2011
My technique is predominantly traditional, but I use photography as the source for my portraiture, this significantly reduces the time and inconvenience to the sitter. I take the photographs over one or two sessions of around two hours duration.
These usually take place in the informal atmosphere of the sitter's home. I carry out most of the work in my studio. The first meeting is often a good opportunity to discuss the client's expectations and for me to see the intended site for the finished work. This enables us to choose the dimensions, colour and tone of the picture and frame, if needed, most appropriate to the setting. The time scale for completed work will vary according to size and materials, on average a head and shoulders study takes between 6 - 8 weeks.
Prices
Portrait Commissions are priced after individual requirements are discussed. Fees vary for specifically requested backgrounds, complex clothing, and inclusion of additional figures.
A classic head and shoulders portrait (40cm x 30 cm) would start at £3,000.00.
The prices are for an unframed piece. All prices include VAT. Sizes are based on life-size.
Once you have agreed the portrait commission a non-refundable deposit of 25% is due upon commissioning/first sitting, with final payment at time of completion.
Framing
I work closely with Bailey Arts, a family run framers and gallery based in Nantwich. They are registered with the Fine Art Trade Guide and are a Guild Commended Framers to Conservation quality. They regularly frame for the Lowry and The Manchester Art Gallery. Both Daniel & John Bailey are extremely knowledgeable and personable, and can advise on suitable framing requirements. www.baileyarts.co.uk
